It has been a pleasure to work with your children this year. They have grown not only physically, but intellectually. It was amazing to see the progress that each child made since the beginning of first grade. Everyone worked hard and showed determination to succeed in all that they did. Remember to continue reading and writing during your time off from school. Here's wishing you a happy and safe summer. Best wishes in second grade and all you do. Until our paths meet again...
****To the upcoming first graders****
This year in first grade, you will have the privilege of having two teachers in your classroom. Mrs. Corey and I have been working together for several years now. Together, we make learning fun and exciting. This year we will be learning all the phonics skills necessary to learn how to decode words, read with fluency and understand what is being read, and writing a five or six sentence paragraph relating to a single subject. That is only reading and language! In math, we will learn how to add and subtract two digit numbers along with many other exciting math skills. We also have many fun projects and learning activities already planned for you. We are looking forward to another enriched learning year. Take a look at our supply list. These are the supplies you will need during the first week of school. Homework is important in these early grades. It not only reinforces what is learned in class, but it teaches responsibility, good work habits and a home/school connection which is a vital step in your child's education. Your child will have homework Monday thru Thursday each week with an occasional project for the weekend. Looking forward to seeing you in September.
