"There are thousands of thoughts lying within a man that he does not fully know 'til he takes up the pen and writes."

             - William Makepeace Thackerey

This quote continues to be the underlying theme for young writers here in my classroom this year. The goal is to become strong, effective writers through the use of the entire writing process (prewriting, writing, revising, and editing). Writers are encouraged to let their thoughts flow through the pen ----- from the mind, through the arm, and onto the paper. When a young writer has flow in his/her writing, created pieces become much more meaningful, and therefore much more powerful. Once a writer's thoughts are put onto paper, we can then work on developing a final copy through the use of the revising and editing process. This can be done through student/teacher conferencing, self-evaluations, and/or classmate evaluations.

Please feel free to view your child's portfolio any time throughout the school year, as it contains all of the wonderful work he/she is creating as he/she develops into a sound writer.
