MRS. SUSAN SCOTT

Sept. 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome to room B-105. As the school year is just getting into full swing, I thought it might be best for all concerned if you had a copy handy for you and your children of everything that I am going over with you during open house.

1.       School Supplies: 2 boxes of tissues, at least three different color highlighters, a glue bottle, a glue stick, and four pocket folders each a different color.

2.       Four book reports will be due this school year, one for each marking period, and will be included as part of the marking period grade. This is an at home activity . If you feel that your child might have difficulty doing this independently, then you might want to assist him/her with this activity. This is solely at your discretion. The book genre is up to your child and you

3.       Homework assignments are written on the class assignment chart each day, and time is given to write down the assignment. In addition, I always go over the homework assignment, and remind the students what books and materials they need to bring home. * Please review nightly with your child their homework, and check off in the assignment book that they have completed the assignment.

 4.       If for some reason (sickness, emergencies, etc.) a student is unable to complete homework, please write a note, and the assignment will be excused until the next day.

•  I encourage the students to choose a homework buddy, someone they can call if they have a question about the assignment. If you do not wish for your telephone number to be circulated in class, please let me know.

 6.       Here are some homework expectations and tips:

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS
:

>All homework must be completed in pencil.

>All work must be labeled with your name, number, date, and subject.

>Your work should be neatly and carefully written so that it is easy to read.

>The papers should not be torn.

>Keep your homework clean and unwrinkled.

>Check over your work.

>Remember to always do your best.

                           HOMEWORK TIPS

>Check assignment pad and folder daily (signature required in assignment pad).

>Work in a calm, clean area (desk, kitchen table, bedroom).

>Bring homework supplies to your work area (Pencils, crayons, paper, glue, scissors, dictionary, eraser) You might want to keep your supplies handy in a shoebox or basket.

I look forward to working with you and your children and watching them grow to become more independent, organized, and responsible students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me either in the assignment book, or by e-mail at scott.susan@byramschools.org

 Sincerely,

 Mrs. Scott

Fall, 2008

We have had an excellent start to the school year, and the students are excited about our animals unit in science. If you have any books that fit our polar animal theme, please send them in labeled with your child’s name. I will return them to you when we have read them.

As we settle into our routine, homework will be arriving at your home every evening. I assign homework according to the following schedule:

Monday: spelling

Tuesday: vocabulary

Wednesday: reading

Thursday: math

Assignments are posted on the board every morning, and students copy them into their assignment pads. I keep homework on the above schedule so that you know what to look for, and so you are aware of what we are working on in those subjects. I also will assign periodic science and social studies projects. If your child has any difficulty with homework assignments please attach a note to it letting me know. Please also help them through any difficult assignments. I don’t want to frustrate them, just challenge them to try.

Special subject classes are as follows:

1 st grade:

Monday: art

Tuesday: PE (Mrs. Vasquez)

Wednesday: Spanish, music

Thursday: library

Friday: PE

2 nd grade:

Monday: music

Tuesday: Spanish, art

Wednesday: PE (Mrs. Vasquez)

Thursday: PE

Friday: library

Please contact me about your child at any time. I can be reached by note, or at:
