Language Arts and Literacy

  • To identify upper and lower case letters and the sound associated with individual letters.
  • To identify the letter when the corresponding sound is produced.
  • To orally blend sounds of letters to form words and to read some decodable. words
  • To recognize that sounds are represented by letters and can be written down in a sequential manner.
  • To develop an understanding of the concepts and mechanics of print.

    • Sit up straight in the chair.
    • Feet flat on the floor.
    • Place arms on the desk with the elbows just off the edge of the table/desk.
    • Non-writing hand holds the paper steady.
  • To correctly grip the pencil.
  • To determine hand dominance.
  • To position the paper correctly.
    • Right handed – position paper square with edges of the table/desk.
    • Left handed – position paper so that it slants to the right.
