Dear Kindergartener,

Welcome to kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Plate and I am so excited to be your teacher. We will get to spend part of the day together. I have been busy preparing our classroom and look forward to September 2nd when we will have orientation (this is the first day of school for your brothers/sisters/friends and is a change from what was originally told to your parents). On this day, you will NOT ride the bus and will come to school with a parent/guardian for a short time. This will give you a chance to check out our classroom and meet some new friends. There will also be a bus parked in front of the school for you to practice buckling yourself in and getting on and off. You will then go home and our normal schedule will begin on Thursday, September 3rd (8:40am - 11:35am or 12:20pm - 3:05pm). Here is the schedule for September 2nd:

Morning Kindergarten
Afternoon Kindergarten
Last name A – L: 9:30am – 10:15 am      Last name A – L: 12:30 pm – 1:15 pm
Last name M – Z: 10:45 am – 11:30 am         Last name M – Z: 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm

There are a few things that you will need to bring with you to school every day.

  •  A Folder:  The folder must have 2 bottom pockets on the inside. Please label your folder with your name on the outside.
  •  A large backpack:  Make sure that your backpack is big enough to fit your folder, your snack, and a library book. Please practice opening your backpack. Also, backpacks with wheels are not permitted. Please label your backpack with your name.
  •  A healthy snack in a bag or lunch box.
    •  You may bring your own drink or you can purchase milk (2% white, skim or low fat chocolate) for the cost of $.35 daily or $1.75 weekly. Please send exact change in a sealed envelope with your name and what kind of milk you would like to have.  Please put your milk money in your daily folder and NOT in your snack bag. We will be checking our folders as soon as we arrive at school.
  •  A Great Big Kindergarten Smile!

Our classroom has many wonderful things. We have areas for reading, puzzles, block play, and crafts. We have our own bathroom, which you may use whenever you need. We also have a drinking fountain. You will have your own cubby for your backpack, pencil box, and your jacket.

I can’t wait to see you on September 2nd. The first day of school can be a little scary, but don’t worry. There are many new friends here and we are all ready for some fun!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Plate
