Peanut Ban Letter
Dear
Parents,
There is a child in your child’s class who has a severe allergy to
peanuts and peanut products. This
allergy is so
severe it is life threatening. Strict
avoidance is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction.
It is vital that
we do all we can to provide these student’s with a safe learning
environment. In an effort to allow them
to participate fully in all class activities, we ask that you do not send in
any foods that contain peanuts or peanut products for daily snack time and
class parties or other special events.
This would include any treats you may wish to send to school to
celebrate your child’s birthday.
Additionally, we
ask that you not send in any foods containing these items.
Since many
manufacturers process peanuts in the same machinery as other types of nuts, all
products with any type of nuts are considered unsafe and should not be sent to
school (walnuts, cashews, pistachios, etc.).
I apologize for
any inconvenience this “peanut ban” may cause, however, I think that we can all
agree that this adjustment is minor relative to the health, well-being and
possible life of any child.
Your cooperation
in this matter is essential and greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions regarding this notice, please do
not hesitate to contact me. If you have
any questions regarding food allergies, please feel free to contact the school
nurse,
Barbara Scholl, at
973-347-1019 ex.2404.
Please sign and return
the bottom tear off with your child to indicate that you are aware of the
seriousness of this issue in your child’s class.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tom Podgurski
Principal
