Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Nominating Committee chose Timothy McCorkle and Charlie Best as recipients of the Governor's Teacher Recognition Program for the 2011/2012 school year and Kara Valeich as Teacher-of-the-Year for the 2012/2013 school year.  On January 25 th the Byram Township Board of Education will acknowledged them as recipients of these awards.

BYRAM SCHOOLS SOLAR PANEL PROJECT

At the November 16, 2011 regular meeting of the Board of Education, the Board adopted a resolution to join an alternative energy consortium along with several other school districts in Sussex County.  As part of this consortium, the Byram Township School District is able to procure the installation of solar panels at no cost.  The installation of panels will generate power which the District will buy at a cost that is guaranteed to be lower than power provided by JCP&L for the lifetime of the panels.  At this time, the estimated savings for the District is $25,000.00 in the first year, $43,000.00 by the 15th year, and $494,000.00 over the lifetime of the project.

The panels will be installed as canopies in the Byram Lakes Elementary School and Byram Intermediate School parking lots, as well as on the roof of the Elementary School.  The canopies will be navigable for school buses and snow plows, and will not eliminate any existing parking spaces.  Additionally they will provide minimal shelter for parked cars during inclement weather. 

Construction of solar canopies and installation of panels is expected to take place over the summer.  When a more definite construction schedule has been set the public will be notified.
